Paving in Lutz: we pave long residential driveways, convert shell and gravel drives to asphalt, and resurface and maintain shared private roads across Lutz and the north end of Hillsborough County. Estimates are free, and a gravel-to-asphalt conversion typically runs an estimated $4–$7 per square foot.
Why Lutz driveways are different
Lutz never had the tract-subdivision build-out of Brandon or Riverview. Alongside newer neighborhoods there are still plenty of properties on an acre or more, horse properties and homes set well back on the lakes, reached by drives a few hundred feet long. Many of those started as shell or limerock. They are cheap to lay and look fine for a while, but every summer storm washes out the low spots, and grading them twice a year gets old. Asphalt over the existing stone is the most common job we do here.
The other common call is a shared road. Several Lutz homes often sit off one private lane that no government maintains, and the owners split the upkeep. Those roads tend to deteriorate unevenly, with the stretch nearest the main road worn hardest because everyone drives it.
Our services in Lutz
Oaks, lakes and sand
Lutz has heavy live oak cover, and oaks are hard on pavement: roots lift edges and the shade keeps the surface damp, which encourages moss and slows curing. We keep the drive edge away from the trunk where we can, cut roots only where it is safe for the tree, and give the edges a firm compacted shoulder. Around the lakes the soil is sandy and drains fast, which is good for a base but means unsupported edges crumble, so shoulders matter here more than most places.
Getting to you
Lutz is a straight run north from Tampa on Dale Mabry Highway or US-41, and we cover the Lutz side of the Pasco line. Long drives need more asphalt than a city driveway, so we schedule them for full days and order the material for a single, continuous pave, which avoids cold joints across the drive.
About prices: Every Lutz figure here is an estimate, reviewed October 8, 2026; long drives in particular vary with length, width and the state of the existing stone. The full list is in our paving price guide.
Lutz paving questions
How much does a long driveway cost to pave?
Long drives cost less per square foot than short ones because the crew and equipment are spread over more area. A 300-foot drive at 12 feet wide is 3,600 square feet, and where the existing shell or rock can serve as base, paving it can come in near the low end of our $4–$7 per square foot range for conversions.
Can several neighbors share the cost of paving a private road?
Yes, and it is common in Lutz. We measure the whole road, price it as one job, and can show each owner's share by frontage or however the group agrees. One contract with one point of contact keeps it simple.
